Following a brief discussion of history and motivators, this presentation will introduce the new tall wood code provisions and construction types, as well as the technical research and testing that supported their adoption.

Regional In-Person Event (Philadelphia, PA) This presentation will cover some of the design considerations associated with mid-rise wood-frame buildings and will also focus on mid-rise mass timber construction. The presentation will also cover decisions that need to be made early in the design process, including grid layout, approach to achieving fire ratings, and lateral system selection.

May 15, 2025 - Regional In-Person Event (Sandy Springs, GA) This presentation will review the tall wood code provisions, including the three new construction types (IV-A, IV-B, and IV-C), and the technical research and testing that supported their adoption. The session will also cover critical aspects of design and construction unique to tall wood buildings, ranging from sprinkler requirements and shaft wall considerations to fire design for penetrations and acoustics performance.
